Wood countertops

A counter cut to the kitchen, not the other way around. Face grain for the room, edge grain for the work, end-grain butcher block for the knives — with mitered returns, sink cutouts placed on the drawing, and the price live the whole time.

Three constructions, one counter

Face grain shows the most wood and reads like furniture. Edge grain — most of what the world calls butcher block — is the calm, stiff workhorse for long runs. End grain stands the fibers up into a true chopping surface, kindest to knife edges, and builds up to six inches thick. All three run in every species on the spectrum.

Fitted to the kitchen

L-shaped runs configure with a mitered corner — pick the side, set the return, and the drawing redraws with the 45° seam placed. Sink cutouts place interactively: drag the opening on the drawing or type exact numbers, and the spec sheet carries the centerlines your installer needs. Every dimension holds to the sixteenth.

The finish, or none

The standard finish is our UV-cured protective coating — a zero-VOC hardwax oil cured solid under LED light — that repels spills, wipes clean, and repairs in place, scars buffed out rather than sanded back to bare. Prefer to run your own oil or a food-prep regimen? Order it unfinished: sanded, bare, ready for your coating — and priced a little less, since the coating step stays in the shop.

Delivery is in the price

Shipping is free on every counter — white-glove across Long Island, the Hamptons, NYC metro, and Connecticut; crated freight nationwide.

Questions

Are wood countertops practical in a real kitchen?
Yes, with the right construction and habits: the hardwax oil wipes clean and buffs back where stone would chip, standing water gets wiped like on any wood surface, and repairs happen in place. Edge grain is the everyday workhorse; end grain is for counters that get cut on.
Can I cut directly on it?
On end-grain butcher block, yes — that construction exists to be worked on, and Hard Maple end grain is the classic. On face- and edge-grain counters, use a board; the finish is durable, but a knife will always win.
How do sink cutouts work?
Toggle the sink cutout on, then either place it interactively on the drawing — size and centerlines exact — or attach the sink's spec sheet and the shop cuts to it. The count is confirmed with the shop after order.
Which species for a wood countertop?
White Oak and Hard Maple are the working standards; Walnut brings the dark end to kitchens that can treat it gently. The compare page puts all ten side by side — tone, hardness, and relative cost.
